Our Love  Story

By Renalyn

I first met Dion at my Aunt’s bakery in May 2008, during summer vacation. He came by with his group of friends, and I happened to be the one manning the shop that day. I was feeling a little bored, just waiting for customers to come in—until he caught my eye. One of them was playfully teasing about our goods, and it was him who made me laugh out loud. Maybe because my dad was also the funny type, my attention naturally gravitated toward him right away.

Back then, we didn’t even have a way to keep in touch. He had a mobile phone, while I didn’t own any gadget at all. He gave me his number, and I memorized it by heart. After that, Dion would often pass by or drop by the bakery, riding his bicycle, just stopping to look around if I was there. I told him I was only there during summer breaks because I was still studying.

A year passed, and I returned to the bakery again. That was when someone else came into the picture and started courting me too. I just watched from the sidelines. This new suitor was sarcastic and kept speaking badly about Dion. Dion, on the other hand, stayed calm and unbothered. I confronted him directly and asked if the things the other man said about him were true. And what he told me was exactly what I needed and wanted to hear. I’ve always been straightforward, and so was he—that’s what I loved most about him, along with his wonderful sense of humor.

On May 4, 2009, I said yes to Dion. We had a long-distance relationship. Of course, our journey wasn’t without struggles. In 2013, after five years together, we went our separate ways. I chose to end the relationship because of overwhelming pressure, trust issues, and the career opportunities I needed to pursue. All I told him was: “If we are meant to be, we will find our way back to each other.” I knew it would hurt, but I decided to let go—for my family, and so I could finish my studies and build a future.

After we parted ways, I tried courting someone else, but when I got turned down, I told myself I’d stay single for the rest of my life. Then a friend joked and told me Renalyn was still single too. That gave me the courage to reach out to her again. We met up in Lucena City, Quezon, and I picked her up from her workplace. That was the start of everything again—my dreams, no—our love story all over again. It felt like we were back in the past, as if we never parted at all. We picked up where we left off, and eventually decided to live together. We asked for our parents’ blessing, and made the decision to get married.

At first, living together wasn’t easy. She’d often get upset with me, scold me, and raise her voice—turning my quiet world upside down! Just kidding! 😂 But I’ve never been happier, and I have no regrets. She is the one my heart chose, the one who completes who I am and my whole life. I am ready to fight for our marriage and everything we’ve built together. Through all the storms we’ve weathered, we have stayed strong. This is our story—and I will love, honor, and respect her for the rest of our lives.
