Our Love  Story

It all started in 2008, when Fel John and Aimel became seatmates in their second year of high school. During a class discussion about the Lakasa field trip, Aimel jokingly asked for pasalubong—specifically Toblerone. Fel John secretly bought one for her, which sparked teasing from classmates and led him to start texting her. He tried to court Aimel, but she initially declined, choosing to focus on her studies.

By 2010, in their fourth year, Aimel joined a playful “dare” with friends about which suitor she would choose. On January 16, she officially said yes to Fel John, marking the beginning of their relationship.

At first, Aimel thought they wouldn’t last because her parents were very strict about relationships; they wanted her to prioritize her studies and graduate first. But Fel John didn’t give up, even with her parents being protective. At one point, he even asked her father for permission to court her, but her father insisted on “studies first,” saying that if they were truly meant to be, it would happen in time.

Despite the challenges, their relationship continued through college, even though they studied at different schools—Aimel in Manila and Fel John in Laguna. Distance didn’t stop them; they always found ways to make time for each other.

To cut the story short, when Fel John learned that Aimel’s mother would be returning to the Philippines from abroad, his parents visited Aimel’s house as a sign of respect, asking if marriage could be considered soon. Fel John had planned to propose on January 16, 2023, during their anniversary trip, but Aimel caught dengue, so he postponed it. Finally, on June 28, 2024, during an out-of-town trip to La Union, Fel John proposed while they were surfing. It was a unique moment—right in the middle of the ocean, soaking wet, and full of joy.

Now, two years later, after 16 years together, they are about to tie the knot on June 28—which also happens to be Aimel’s birthday.
